Our research explores the way that people relate themselves to certain characteristics regarding daily function and social skills, how they see their friends relating to these same characteristics, and how these characteristics influence the relationship they have with their closest friend. This research helps understand friendship across neurodivergence, which refers to mental function and behaviors outside of the norm or standard, and how this neurodivergence influences how friends understand and appreciate their friendships. Data suggests that similarity is more likely to predict friendship than difference, but that friendship quality is not influenced by similarity or lack thereof.
