This study analyzes the relationship between a parent’s educational attainment and their child’s educational attainment. It is shown that children are more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree and less likely to drop out of high school if their parents have achieved higher levels of education. This study also looks at the relationship between parental involvement in the home, for example discussions on education, parental limitations, school attendance, and a child’s educational attainment. This is specifically directed to look at first generation college students. It is shown that students who discuss going to college with their parents or guardians have a significant relationship with achieving a higher level of educational attainment.
