Mega events are large scale sporting events that may have a national audience, but more often attract an international audience. Although mega events are scheduled once a year somewhere in the world, yet they are a rare occurrence for the host cities or country. The United Kingdom has been fortunate enough to host multiple mega events since 1995 including the Commonwealth Games and Summer Olympics among others. In choosing the U.K. I considered the size of the nations, how available the monthly data was, and they had hosted plenty of mega events. I have no evidence to support my hypothesis, claiming mega-sporting events positively impact tourist arrivals. This potentially can be attributed to “normal” tourists changing their behavior when the events are held, either moving their trip to a different time or location.
